A British Death in Shanghai: Documentary on 1937 Battle

For a brief moment, the titanic struggle between China and Japan at Shanghai in 1937 suddenly became very personal to the western public. This was when 25-year-old British soldier Patrick McGowan was killed by the Japanese while on duty on the outskirts of the city’s International Settlement. His niece’s long search for the truth about his fate has now been turned into a documentary by film makers Peter Roch and Jason Davidson. Here is an abbreviated version:

  1. I sure wish I could watch the whole thing. But these documentaries are typically aired at some film festival or other and then retired from public view.
